HC Deb 14 June 1934 vol 290 c1894
55. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he is aware that the names of returned settlers from Victoria who call at the Dominions Office are referred to the Ministry of Labour; and if it is intended to take any other steps to assist these people to make a fresh start in this country?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

Each case in inquired into individually in the Oversea Settlement Department, and the names are then referred to the Ministry of Labour with a special recommendation. I am glad to say that employment has already been found for several. In addition, the Department is always prepared to communicate with employers on behalf of individual settlers regarding any specific openings and to take any other steps which may be possible to assist the settlers to obtain employment.
