HC Deb 06 June 1934 vol 290 cc931-2
43. Mr. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether he has received any report from his inspector in connection with the crane accident that happened at the Victoria Dock, London, when three men were killed; and whether the crane in question was carrying more weight than it was registered to carry?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have received a report of the accident to which the hon. Member refers, but it was not due to any failure or misuse of a crane. It arose from the failure of wire ropes used as stays in the demolition of a grain elevator on a quay. The circumstances were fully investigated at the inquest and there appears to have been no breach of statutory duty.
