HC Deb 30 July 1934 vol 292 c2270
44. Sir NAIRNE STEWART SANDEMAN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether it is decided to bring in regulations to curtail the whaling season this year?

Mr. ELLIOT

I am giving this matter my careful consideration, but there are a number of difficult questions involved, including the fact that the Dominions concerned have not yet passed the legislation which would enable them to impose a similar regulation and thereby secure its general enforcement. I am not, therefore, in a position to make a statement.

Sir N. STEWART SANDEMAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that only one English expedition is going out to slaughter the whales in October, and cannot he use his persuasive powers to get them to stay at home until a later time?
