HC Deb 30 July 1934 vol 292 c2281
75. Mr. CHORLTON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air if, in view of the slow progress made in the silencing of aircraft from propeller and engine, and other noises, coupled with the great importance of silent aircraft, he will institute special research work to accelerate the freeing of aircraft from these handicaps?

Sir P. SASSOON

Comprehensive research work on this matter is already being actively pursued. A special Aircraft Noise Sub-Committee of the Aeronautical Research Committee is engaged in research on the problem, in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory. My hon. Friend will appreciate that the technical difficulties involved are exceedingly complex.

Mr. CHORLTON

Will my right hon. Friend make sure of the progress made with the Committee on this subject, which I believe has been going on for some years? The progress has been slow.

Sir P. SASSOON

I think I have answered my hon. Friend.
