HC Deb 25 July 1934 vol 292 c1766
15. Mr. GROVES

asked the Minister of Transport whether his Department has any particulars of scientific research in the temperature effects upon the compressive strength of concrete exposed to different temperatures during hardening, with special reference to concreting conditions in winter weather; and, as such information may be of great value to local authorities regarding local labour, is any consultation ensured between his Departmental engineers and those of local authorities?

Captain AUSTIN HUDSON (Lord of the Treasury)

Much information on these points is in the possession of the Ministry of Transport, and special steps are taken to ensure that the results of the research which has been undertaken are available to the engineers and surveyors of local authorities. A special report was published last year on "Concrete in Road Construction," and much material is contained in the reports published by the technical advisory committee. The technical officers of the Department also maintain close touch with the engineers of highway authorities, and the consultation which the hon. Member rightly desires is, in my hon. Friend's opinion, effectively secured.
