HC Deb 25 July 1934 vol 292 cc1765-6
16. Mr. SIMMONDS

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the proposals of motor insurance companies to raise their premiums by amounts approximately equal to the remission he has granted in the tax upon horse power; and if the Government will take steps to prevent this frustration of its intention to encourage the manufacture of higher-powered motor cars?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

I am not aware of any proposal by insurers to take advantage of the remission in taxation to obtain a general increase in rates of premium.
