HC Deb 18 July 1934 vol 292 cc1083-4
5. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what proportion of oil fuel for the Navy is stored on the South-Eastern and Southern Coast; and whether steps have been taken to prevent any paralysis of the Navy if any considerable proportion of such storage was destroyed by air or other attack?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Sir Bolton Eyres Monsell)

It is not in the public interest to give the information asked for in the first part of the question. My right hon. Friend may rest assured that the Admiralty is fully alive to the possibility of attacks from the air or otherwise, and that measures of defence are under constant consideration.

Mr. LAMBERT

Is it possible to defend these areas from hostile air attack?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

I think my right hon. Friend will agree that that is an impossible question to discuss at Question Time.
