HC Deb 18 July 1934 vol 292 c1082
2. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the official statement by Dr. Goebbels, the German minister of propaganda, in his national broadcast, that British journalists in Germany have been guilty of methods of deliberate and systematic poisoning of public opinion, he will make representations on the subject to the German Government and inquire what is referred to in this grave reflection on British subjects?

Sir J. SIMON

I consider that the reputation of British journalists stands sufficiently high for it to be superfluous to make representations to the German Government on this matter.

Mr. MANDER

Is not the real truth that they have told the facts only too clearly and truthfully

Lieut.-Colonel Sir ARNOLD WILSON

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that the views of Dr. Goebbels are to some extent shared by many responsible Englishmen long resident in Germany?

Mr. MANDER

Is he aware that there are very few in this country?
