HC Deb 16 July 1934 vol 292 c764
11. Mr. REMER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will point out to the Brazilian Government that it is impossible to allow the financing in London of short-term accommodation for the benefit of Brazilian interests while the Brazilian authorities refuse to protect the interests of British investors in the Cantareira and Leopoldina Companies?

Sir J. SIMON

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the difficulties of the Leopoldina Terminal and Cantareira, Companies arising from the unwillingness of the Brazilian authorities to allow a revision of the tramway and ferry fares. As I explained to my hon. Friend on the 9th July, no settlement has, I understand, yet been reached in this matter, but negotiations are still proceeding, and no action by His Majesty's Government is for the moment either called for or desired by the companies.
