HC Deb 10 July 1934 vol 292 cc153-4
4. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the criticisms regarding the Board of Trade estimate of the net interest during 1933 from overseas investments; and whether the Board of Trade has made any revision of this estimate since it was published?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have seen the criticism to which my hon Friend refers. In preparing the annual estimates of the various items entering into the balance of payments it is the usual practice to re view, at the same time, the corresponding estimates in respect of previous years in the light of later and more reliable information which may have become available since the original calculations were made. The estimate in question will accordingly be revised, if necessary, when the position in respect of the current year is being investigated.
