§ 6. Mr. R. T. EVANSasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is in a position to inform the House of any reports he has received concerning recent events in Germany?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir John Simon)The facts so far as they are at present known have been reported in the Press, and I have nothing at present to add to them.
§ 7. Mr. EVANSasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the changed conditions in Germany, His Majesty's Government stands by the obligations accepted by Britain under the terms of the pact of Locarno?
§ Sir J. SIMONThe attitude of His Majesty's Government as regards the obligations of this country under the Locarno Treaties was fully explained by rue to the House on the 7th November last, in the course of the Debate on the Adjournment. I have nothing now to add to or to subtract from the statement then made.
§ Mr. EVANSAre we to take it that recent events in Germany have in no wise coloured the minds of the Government on this issue?
§ Sir J. SIMONIt is not a question of our minds being coloured. The British interests which led to the conclusion of the Locarno agreement are not altered by any internal convulsions in Germany and, in any case, what we decided upon then we stand by.
