asked the; Home Secretary how many short-service constables have joined the Metropolitan Police since the inception of the new system; and whether he is yet in a position to state if the system is working satisfactorily?

On the 2nd instant, 103 short-service constables were serving in the force, 35 undergoing training as candidates and 30 accepted and waiting to commence training. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.
