HC Deb 04 July 1934 vol 291 c1884
1. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Italy has now withdrawn from her position of insistence on the execution of existing arms contracts in connection with the embargo on the export of arms to Bolivia and Paraguay; and whether any other country is maintaining this attitude?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir John Simon)

According to my information the position as regards Italy remains for the moment as described in the reply returned to the hon. Member on the 26th June. I am not aware that any other country has raised the question of the exemption from the embargo of existing contracts.

Mr. MANDER

Can my right hon. Friend say how long Italy is likely to go on holding up the whole world in this matter?

Sir J. SIMON

We have made representations on the subject, and I have information that the Italian Government are further considering the matter.
