§ 12. Mr. WHITEasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is now in a 945 position to make a statement as to the progress of reorganisation within the steel industry?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANMy hon. Friend has no doubt seen the published reports of the progress made recently in various important developments in the iron and steel industry, including the new works of Messrs. Stewarts and Lloyds at Corby and the reconstruction of the Cardiff works of the British (Guest Keen Bald-wins) Iron and Steel Company. I understand also that as a result of the work of a national committee of the industry appointed to consider the steps to be taken to bring about re-organisation, a scheme for improving the central organisation of the industry will be considered by the National Federation of Iron and Steel Manufacturers in a few weeks' time.
§ Mr. THORNEIs not the right hon. Gentleman aware that the works at Corby are not re-constructed works, but entirely new works?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANI think I used that very word. I said that they were "new" works.
