HC Deb 06 February 1934 vol 285 c969
51. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the difficulties which have arisen in connection with the need to distinguish between store and fat cattle imported from Ireland; and what arrangements have been made to insure compensation or other reasonable methods of treating imparters who are held to have brought more fat cattle into the country than permitted under the existing quota?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

I am aware of the arrangements that have been made for classifying fat and store cattle imported from Ireland, but the matter is one for the Minister of Agriculture. As regards the second part of the question, fat cattle not covered by a proper licence are forfeited under the law and sold; but the treatment of cases where there appears to have been no deliberate attempt to evade the quota provisions is being actively considered.
