HC Deb 06 December 1934 vol 295 cc1792-3
9. Mr. LEONARD

asked the Minister of Labour whether the firm of John Youden and Sons, Glasgow, in their application of 22nd January this year for permission to bring into this country an alien terrazzo-worker, stated the purpose for which this man was required?

Mr. STANLEY

In applying on 22nd January for a permit for a foreign terrazzo-worker this firm did not specify the contract or contracts for which he was required but stated in general terms that he was required to assist in the completion of work in hand and to instruct British trainees.

Mr. LEONARD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that that answer is contrary to one previously given to a similar question; and, in view of the fact that the statement was made by the firm that this was being done for the purpose of instructing trainees, will he again look into the matter?

Mr. STANLEY

I am looking into the whole matter of the employment of these terrazzo-workers.
