HC Deb 03 December 1934 vol 295 cc1234-5
8. Mr. WILMOT

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether an explanation and an apology has yet been received from the Japanese Government for their ill-treatment of Mr. William Maxwell Bickerton; whether any compensation is being paid to him; and whether any assurances have been received that British subjects will not be so treated in Japan in future?

Mr. BLINDELL

I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend has received a telegram from His Majesty's Ambassador at Tokyo informing him that the Japanese Government have replied to the representations he has made in this case. Until, however, my right hon. Friend has seen the text of this communication, which he expects to receive shortly, he would prefer not to make any statement in regard to the matter.
