HC Deb 03 December 1934 vol 295 cc1218-9
16. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Minister of Agriculture what stock has been destroyed, with the approximate value, during the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Devon; and, on the assumption that no further outbreaks occur, when the restriction on the removal of cattle will be removed?

Mr. ELLIOT

178 animals, including 84 cattle, 67 sheep and 27 pigs, have been slaughtered by the Ministry's direction in connection with the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease on four farms in Devon. The approximate value of the stock destroyed is £1,235. If no further outbreaks occur, it is intended to reduce the limits of the infected area from a radius of 15 miles round Chudleigh to one of 5 miles on the 11th December, and to remove the infected area restrictions entirely on the 31st December.
