HC Deb 19 April 1934 vol 288 c1123
43. Brigadier-General SPEARS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, now that he has received a reply from the German Government with regard to the increased German expenditure on armaments, he can make a statement as to its bearing on the Treaty of Versailles; and if he intends to take any action?

Mr. EDEN

No, Sir. I am unable at present to make any further statement on the subject.

Brigadier-General SPEARS

Arising out of that, may I ask when an answer can be given?

Mr. EDEN

I am afraid that I cannot add to the terms of my reply.

Mr. THORNE

Is it not as plain to the hon. Gentleman as it is to all of us that Germany is spending a tremendous amount on armaments of every kind?

Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

How are you going to stop them?
