HC Deb 18 April 1934 vol 288 c967
49. Mr. BURNETT

asked the Postmaster-General whether mails to this country from Hong Kong sent via Siberia are transmitted via Dairen and Manchuli or via Vladivostok?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir Ernest Bennett)

According to the latest information in my possession, mails to this country from Hong Kong sent via Siberia are forwarded via, Japan, Fusan, Hsinking and Manchuli.

Mr. BURNETT

Is there not considerable dislocation of business and widespread complaint resulting from the delay?

Sir E. BENNETT

In any case, the responsibility for the routes for the carriage of mails coming from the Colonies to this country is solely the responsibility of the Colonial post offices concerned.

Mr. SIMMONDS

Are these mails forwarded to this country by air, or by obsolete methods?

Sir E. BENNETT

If the train is an obsolete method, it is obsolete, because the mails are forwarded by train.
