HC Deb 16 April 1934 vol 288 c707
31. Mr. THORNE

asked the Minister of Health if he has received a report from the auditor who audited the Camberwell Borough Council's accounts in which he insisted upon the borough council reducing the wages of their employés by 2 per cent., which will mean a loss of 9d. per week to lower paid men and 7d. per week to women; and what action he is going to take in the matter?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

The report of the district auditor has not yet been received, but my right hon. Friend understands that the wages of certain employés of the council which were in excess of the prevailing rates have received the attention of the district auditor and that the council have accordingly agreed to certain reductions in order to bring these wages into accordance with the appropriate judgments of the courts.
