HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 c1047
49. Mr. MANDER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will endeavour to make arrangements with the Import Duties Advisory Committee for resolutions dealing with the imposition of or alteration in duties coming before this House to be presented in a form which will allow separate decisions to be taken, either in each case or in each group of cases?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

I do not think it would be for the general convenience of the House if the large number of individual modifications of the duties under the Import Duties Act were to be presented for confirmation in the manner suggested, but I will consider to what extent modifications of duty could be grouped in Orders according to the nature of the articles concerned.

Mr. PIKE

Will the right hon. Gentle-man take action so that the Import Duties Advisory Committee will not be precluded from extending any recommendations already made?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I do not think that that arises out of the original question.
