The cost to the Exchequer of transitional payments, including administration, during the year ended 31st October, 1932, was approximately £46,900,000.

asked the Minister of Labour what the approximate increased cost to the Exchequer would be if the means test under the Unemployment Insurance Acts was abolished?

Sir H. BETTERTON

It is estimated that the increased cost to the Exchequer if the needs test were abolished would be, at the present rate of expenditure on transitional payments, approximately, £15,000,000 per annum.
