HC Deb 28 November 1933 vol 283 c697
74. Major OWEN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the depression in agriculture, the Government is prepared to set up forthwith a commission of inquiry into the incidence of tithe rentcharges in England and Wales?

75. Mr. HAYDN JONES

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the depression in agriculture, he will state what steps he proposes to take to deal with the burden of excessive tithe rentcharge?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Elliot)

As indicated in the reply I gave yesterday to questions by my hon. Friends the Member for Colchester (Mr. O. Lewis) and the Member for Kidderminster (Sir J. Wardlaw-Milne), I am not in a position to make any statement at present on the subject of tithe.

Major OWEN

When will the right hon. Gentleman be able to make a statement on this very urgent question?

Mr. ELLIOT

I can give no intimation to-day.
