HC Deb 28 November 1933 vol 283 cc696-7
73. Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE

asked the Minister of Labour if he will give an assurance that he will recruit the staff necessary to carry out the provisions of the Unemployment Bill from ex-service men at present employed on similar work performed by local authorities?

Sir H. BETTERTON

In accordance with the provisions of Part II of the Unemployment Bill, the Unemployment Assistance Board will recruit its staff after consultation with me, and subject to the consent of the Treasury. I think my hon. Friend may be assured that the Board will take into account both the claims of those who are already engaged upon the work which the Board will take over, and the claims of ex-service men.
