HC Deb 28 November 1933 vol 283 c676
33. Colonel CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he is satisfied that the effect of the withdrawal of the light-horse breeding subsidy borne until recently on the Vote of his Department is in the best interests of the country; and, if not, will he state what measures he proposes to adopt to remedy the situation?

Mr. COOPER

My hon. and gallant Friend is probably aware that the grants for the encouragement of light-horse breeding were discontinued solely on the ground of economy. The question of the resumption of a grant from Army funds is under consideration, but I am unable at present to give any indication as to whether it will be found possible to make a grant.

Mr. SMITHERS

May I ask whether, if it is not found possible to continue the whole of the grant, they will continue as much of it as is possible?

Mr. COOPER

That possibility will certainly be taken into consideration.
