HC Deb 28 November 1933 vol 283 cc670-1
26. Mr. BARCLAY-HARVEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade if, in view of the increasing imports of German oats, he will consider opening negotiations with Germany with a view to stopping this importation, as the low price at which these oats are being offered is having a depressing effect on the price of oats in this country?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I doubt whether the course suggested by my hon. Friend would achieve the desired result.

Mr. HANNON

Has the right hon. Gentleman any information that a subsidy is being given by the German Government?

Lord SCONE

Is the Department investigating the whole position or not?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

Yes, we' are getting information together and keeping it up, to date.

Mr. BOOTHBY

If this agreement does not achieve the object, what course does the right hon. Gentleman propose in order to achieve it?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I cannot say at present.
