asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the names of the present members of the committee on the redrafting of the law relating to Income Tax; when it was appointed; how often it has met; when last it met; and when he anticipates receiving its report?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The names of the present members are:-

  • The right hon. Lord Macmillan (Chairman).
  • Sir F. F. Liddell (Vice-Chairman).
  • David H. Allan, Esquire.
  • A. M. Bremner, Esquire.
  • Sir W. M. Graham-Harrison.
  • R. P. Hills, Esquire.
  • C. L. King, Esquire.
  • His Honour Judge Konstam.
  • Fergus D. Morton, Esquire.
  • Sir John Shaw.
The Committee was originally appointed on the 31st October, 1927. Lord Macmillan, Mr. C. L. King and Mr. Fergus Morton were appointed at the beginning of 1932 and Mr. Allan was appointed in the middle of 1932.

The committee has held 122 meetings.

The committee last met on the 23rd November, 1933.

The Committee hopes to complete its labours during the course of next year.

Will everything be done to expedite the presentation of the report in view of the technical clouds which now involve the whole Income Tax law and which are not understandable by the taxpayers?
