HC Deb 27 November 1933 vol 283 cc484-5
3. Sir FRANK SANDERSON

asked the Secretary of State for India if he will represent to the Government of India that they should refuse to release for exhibition to the native population in India the film "The Private Life of Henry VIII," in view of the detrimental effect it is likely to have upon the minds of a native audience?

Sir S. HOARE

No film can be exhibited in India unless it is certified by one of the five Indian boards of film censors, as suitable for public exhibition. I have every confidence in the judgment of these boards, and I should not feel justified in interfering with their discretion in a case of this kind.

Sir F. SANDERSON

I am obliged to the right hon. Gentleman for his reply. Can he say whether this film has, in fact, been censored?

Sir S. HOARE

I could not say.
