§ 57. Mr. HICKSasked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the statement in Circular 1334, issued under the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1933, expressing confidence that local authorities will endeavour to secure that effect is given to the principles of the fair-wages Clause, a local authority will be entitled to make the giving of a guarantee dependent upon observance of the fair-wages Clause; and, if so, why in a subsequent letter it was intimated that the Department would deprecate the rejection of an otherwise satisfactory scheme because of a refusal to observe the fair-wages Clause?
