HC Deb 31 May 1933 vol 278 c1877
49. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Labour what is the number of skilled vertical granite polishers at present unemployed in Aberdeen; and whether he is aware that offers of employment for such men in south-west Lancashire at more than trade union wages have been declined?

Mr. HUDSON

There are 16 workmen of this grade on the register at Aberdeen. I understand that their non-employment in the vacancies to which my hon. Friend evidently refers is not connected with the question of wages nor any refusal of the men to accept these vacancies.

Mr. BURNETT

Is it not the case that there has been very few unemployed in the Aberdeen granite industry Since a tariff was put upon imported manufactured granite?
