HC Deb 31 May 1933 vol 278 c1878
51. Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE

asked the Minister of Labour the number of insured men employed in industry of the ages from 60 to 65, and the number over 65, at the latest convenient date?

Mr. HUDSON

It is estimated that the number of men aged 60 to 64 insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts is approximately 430,000, of whom about 147,000 are unemployed. As regards persons aged 65 and over it is estimated that the number of men aged 65 and over who are employed at some time during the year in industry, including agriculture, is about 260,000. The number in employment at any particular date is substantially less than this figure.
