HC Deb 03 May 1933 vol 277 c834
29. Colonel CLIFTON BROWN

asked the First Commissioner of Works on how many days during the last six months the new regulation prohibiting riding in Richmond Park after 10 a.m. has been put into operation; and whether the present state of the turf in the park is better than it was before the regulations were introduced?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

The park has been closed to riders on six occasions only in the last six months. I am glad to say that, owing to the better observance of the regulations as to galloping and riding on worn tracks, as well as to the weather conditions during the winter, the state of the turf is much better than at this time last year, in spite of an increase in the number of riders. I am much indebted to the riders for co-operating so helpfully in thus securing an improvement in the appearance of the park.
