§ 42. Mr. HORNBYasked the Minister of Health if he will publish a statement showing the rate in the pound which was levied by local authorities for the maintenance of able-bodied unemployed persons for the year ending March, 1933?
§ The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Hilton Young)A separate rate is not levied by local authorities to defray the cost of poor relief to able-bodied unemployed persons, but that cost forms part of the estimated requirements for public assistance, the equivalent rate in the pound for which is shown as one amount in the rate demand notes. I regret, therefore, that I am unable to furnish a statement as desired by my hon. Friend.
