HC Deb 22 March 1933 vol 276 c310
20. Mr. O'CONNOR

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is yet in a position to make any statement as to the result of his representations to the French Government on the subject of the discriminatory surtax levied on British imports into France?

Lieut.-Colonel J. COLVILLE (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given yesterday to the hon. Member for Stockport (Mr. Hammersley).

Mr. O'CONNOR

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that contracts are being lost every day of the week owing to the existence of this discrimination?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

I think that, if my hon. and learned Friend will read the answer which I gave yesterday and the supplementary answer, he will see that the Government are fully alive to this question and are giving it their attention.

Mr. O'CONNOR

In view of the nature of my hon. and gallant Friend's reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise this matter on the Motion for the Adjournment at an early date.
