HC Deb 16 March 1933 vol 275 cc2140-1
79. Lieut.-Colonel GAULT

asked the hon. Member for Ipswich, as Chairman of the Kitchen Committee, whether he can state the amount of cider which was consumed in the refreshment departments of the House of Commons during the past calendar year; and what proportion of this amount was genuine Somerset cider?

Sir JOHN GANZONI

Sir, 204 gallons of draught, 84 dozen reputed pints and 98 dozen smaller bottles of cider were consumed last year. They were all Hereford, Devonshire or Norfolk brands.

Lieut.-Colonel GAULT

Is my hon. Friend aware that, in the opinion of experts and connoisseurs, the best cider comes from Somerset, and will he provide adequate facilities for hon. Members to enjoy this refreshing beverage for the future?

Sir H. CROFT

Is it not a fact that the alcoholic content of Somerset cider is somewhat in excess of that of the ordinary working man's beer, and will he give warning to hon. Members accordingly?

Sir J. GANZONI

I am always open to receive any helpful advice.
