HC Deb 14 March 1933 vol 275 c1769
44. Mr. McKEAG

asked the Prime Minister when it is intended to introduce legislation to give effect to the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Unemployment Insurance; and whether such legislation will give additional assistance to the depressed areas?

The LORD PRESIDENT of the COUNCIL (Mr. Baldwin)

The recommendations of the Royal Commission are under consideration by the Government. The position in the distressed areas is very closely related to certain of them and must be considered with them. I am unable at the moment to say when legislation will be introduced.

Mr. McKEAG

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the report of this Commission was published in November last, and that the dalliance of the Government in dealing with it is causing grave dissatisfaction in the depressed areas?

Mr. BALDWIN

I am aware when the report was published, and, if the hon. Gentleman had any responsibility for promoting legislation in this House, he would not consider three months dalliance.
