§ 30. Mr. RHYS DAVIESasked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the growing menace to public health, particularly in the case of young children in large cities and the drivers, caused by the exhaust fumes of motor vehicles, any measures are being taken to abate this nuisance?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)I am not aware of any evidence that exhaust fumes from motor vehicles in the open air constitute any danger to the public health, though in a confined space they can, of course, be injurious.
§ Mr. DAVIESHas the hon. and gallant Gentleman any evidence as to the effect of these fumes on the drivers of the vehicles?
§ Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAMI do not think that drivers suffer any evil effects in the open air.
