HC Deb 13 June 1933 vol 279 cc13-4
24. Mr. D. GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he can state the present stage of the negotiations between the Government of India and the Ceylon Government on the subject of a reduction of Indian duties on Ceylon cocoanuts; and whether the Government of India propose to ask the legislative assembly to ratify any agreement arrived at as a result of the negotiations?

Mr. BUTLER

I have no recent information. I have no doubt that the Government of India would ask their legislature to ratify any agreement arrived at.

Mr. GRENFELL

Is there not unnecessary delay, and does not that cause dissatisfaction among the traders of Ceylon?

Mr. BUTLER

I am satisfied that this matter will be attended to with all reasonable despatch.
