HC Deb 13 July 1933 vol 280 c1231
44. Mr. CAPORN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can supply figures showing either the volume or, on a comparable costs basis, the value of articles wholly or mainly manufactured, excluding iron and steel and manufactures thereof and coke and manufactured fuel, imported into this country during the four months ended 30th April in each of the years 1931, 1932 and 1933?

Dr. BURGIN

Estimates of the volume of our overseas trade, eliminating the effect of price changes, are made in respect of quarterly periods only. For the first quarter of each of the years 1931 to 1933, the relative volume of imports of articles wholly or mainly manufactured (excluding iron and steel and manufactures thereof, and coke and manufactured fuel) was 100, 78 and 68, respectively.
