HC Deb 13 July 1933 vol 280 c1231
45. Mr. CAPORN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can supply any information or estimate of the balance of trade and of payments between this country and the rest of the world for the first four months in each of the years 1931, 1932 and 1933?

Dr. BURGIN

The excess of imports over exports of merchandise in the trade of the United Kingdom during the first four months of 1931, 1932 and 1933, was £120,000,000, £99,100,000 and £77,800,000, respectively. It is not practicable to furnish an estimate of the invisible items entering into the balance of payments, for periods other than a calendar year.
