HC Deb 11 July 1933 vol 280 c931
45. Mr. BURNETT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the German law of 1933 has adversely affected British holders of the 52 per cent. German 1930 Young Loan; and whether he will submit to The Hague Tribunal the legality of the action of the German Government in passing the law of 1933 to alter the terms of their contractual obligations made with British subjects to transfer sinking fund payments in sterling on the London issue of the Young 5½ per cent. loan?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, North (Sir N. Grattan-Doyle) on Wednesday last.

Mr. BURNETT

Is the German Government entitled to alter contractual obligations by unilateral legislation? Is it not a question for international action?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

That is a matter of opinion.
