HC Deb 11 July 1933 vol 280 c911
9. Mr. GUY

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has considered the resolution sent to him based upon the report of the Edinburgh Cinema Inquiry Committee; and if he will consider the advisability of setting up a Departmental Committee to investigate the question of cinema film censorship in Scotland and matters connected therewith?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir Godfrey Collins)

I have considered the resolution passed at a public meeting held on the 6th March under the auspices of the Edinburgh Cinema Inquiry Committee, but I do not feel that an inquiry on the lines suggested is necessary. I have in view that legislation may be required, but there is a possibility that the need for this may be avoided, and that aspect of the matter is now being explored.

Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

Is the operation of the National Film Institute to be extended to Scotland?

Sir G. COLLINS

We are in touch with the British Board of Film Censors and are enlisting their assistance in this matter.

Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

That is a different matter.
