HC Deb 10 July 1933 vol 280 c744
28. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the President of the Board of Trade when he intends to introduce legislation to enable the United Kingdom to regulate imports quantitatively?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

The only legislation at present in contemplation for the quantitative regulation of imports is that contained in the Agricultural Marketing Bill and the Sea-Fishing Industry Bill now before Parliament.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Having regard to the new situation created by the denunciation of the international convention do the Government propose to take advantage of the situation in which they now find themselves, of being able to regulate imports without at the same time imposing restriction on home distribution?

Dr. BURGIN

The only legislation in contemplation is that to which I have referred.
