HC Deb 10 July 1933 vol 280 c731
1. Sir JOHN WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has yet come to any decision in the matter of the re-appointment of railway engineers by the Secretary of State, as recommended by the Lee Commission in 1924; and, if so, what that decision is?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

After careful consideration of their representations, it has been decided that the railway engineers to whom my hon. Friend refers, have not established their case to be reappointed by the Secretary of State.

Sir J. WARDLAW-MILNE

Was it not the original recommendation of the Lee Commission that that should be so?

Mr. BUTLER

My hon. Friend is, I think, not quite accurate in stating that the Lee Commission recommended the re-appointment of officers in the central services. Their recommendation was confined to officers in the All-India services.
