HC Deb 06 July 1933 vol 280 cc490-1
20. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Health whether it is the intention of the Government to deal with the recommendations of the report of the Departmental Committee on the Superannuation of Local Government Employés, 1928, with particular reference to Sub-section (2) of paragraph 124, concerning the reduction of the rate of contribution payable in respect of manual workers, and for allowing the payment of contributions on the normal earnings of an employé whose remuneration has been reduced on account of advancing age or physical deterioration?

Sir H. YOUNG

In the present state of public business it is not possible for the Government to contemplate the introduction of legislation on this subject.

Mr. MANDER

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the great importance of this matter to municipal employés, such as omnibus men, whose wages are reduced as they grow older, and will he not consider it as a non-controversial matter?

Sir H. YOUNG

Yes, Sir, I am well aware of the importance of the matter, and of the aspects to which the hon. Member refers, and it would, of course, very much facilitate the prospect of any legislation if it were proved that it was entirely non-controversial, but that is not the case at present.
