§ 17. Mr. MABANEasked the Minister of Health whether 25 and 26 Vict., c. 93, s. 30, has been carried into effect; and, if not, whether there is any reason for the delay?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Mr. Shakespeare)This is not a matter in which my right hon. Friend has any jurisdiction: my hon. Friend will no doubt observe that the obligations imposed by 321 the Section in question are mutual, and it may be doubted whether the learned societies in question are now willing to perform their part.
§ Mr. MABANEWill my hon. Friend draw the attention of the London County Council to the distinguished members of the Inner and Middle Temple who are unable to land at their own landing stage in consequence of the provision not being carried out?
§ Mr. SHAKESPEAREI have studied the Act, and I understand that not only was the old board compelled to provide these two societies with a landing stage, but also the societies were compelled to use it. The 70 years have not altogether been wasted, because a landing stage and pontoon were provided, although the pontoon has since been lost.
§ Mr. MALLALIEUIn view of the widespread unemployment in those societies, would it not be considerate on the part of the Government to provide boating facilities for them?
