HC Deb 27 February 1933 vol 275 c18
45. Mr. MANDER

asked the Prime Minister if he will make arrangements whereby Members may receive the assistance of expert officials in order to make effective preparation of their plans for relieving unemployment?

The PRIME MINISTER

Hon. Members may rest assured that every scheme which offers any hope of good results will be considered in detail and the help of Departmental experts enlisted by the Departments, but officials cannot possibly be employed on the conditions suggested by my hon. Friend.

Mr. MANDER

Would it not be possible for hon. Members to have an opportunity of discussing with experts the proposals they have to bring forward?

The PRIME MINISTER

Certainly, but not the experts who are officials of the Department and Government servants.

Mr. MANDER

Surely, if the Government are really serious in the matter they might consider placing at the disposal of Members facilities for discussing their plans with experts?
