§ 28. Sir W. DAVISON (forMr. HANNON)asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the machines now being used by the Post Office for the stamping of the words "Buy British" over postage stamps are foreign-made machines stamped with the words "Made in U.S.A."; and if it is impossible to secure machines of British origin to carry out this work?
§ Sir K. WOODNo foreign-made stamp-cancelling machines have been bought by the Post Office since March, 1931, when British-made machines became available. A number of old foreign-made machines are still in use, but these are kept in running order by the replacement of worn or faulty parts with British-made components.
§ Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMSWhy, in March, 1931, particularly? Has there been some change?
§ Sir K. WOODWhen British-made machines became available.
§ Mr. WILLIAMSBut it was not this Government's fault that they were not available before?
