HC Deb 27 February 1933 vol 275 c15
34. Sir P. HURD

asked the Minister of Health what steps he is taking to encourage a larger use of the Housing (Rural Workers) Act of 1926, to provide houses for rural workers at rents they can pay?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Mr. Shakespeare)

Every opportunity is taken in correspondence and interviews with appropriate local authorities to bring the advantages of this Act to their notice. My right hon. Friend is considering what further general action may be practicable.

Sir P. HURD

Does the Ministry not think that the time has come when a conference of the leading county councils and other housing authorities should be summoned in order to help forward the use of this Act?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I will convey that suggestion to my right hon. Friend.

Mr. BOOTH BY

In any action that may be taken will it apply to Scotland as well as to England?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

That is a question for another Department.
